Colors: Ebony red, orange blue, tan chocolate, sable cinnamon, fawn lilac, beige, gray lavender, white black
Lifespan: 12–15 years
Price: $1,000–$2,000

The ever-popular Munchkin cat is a fan favorite for feline lovers everywhere. These cats have soared in popularity because of their compact, adorably small legs and sweet, loving demeanors. Many love the soft, dense coat of the Munchkin, too. Even though not all of them are medium-length-haired, most of them do have this trait. The origin of these beauties came from a freak incident—when a stray gave birth to a litter of babies with short legs. Relatively new, the Munchkin underwent some serious developments. Breeders gave a strong focus on creating an entire breed with this genetic mutation.

2. Ragdoll Cats

Colors: Red, blue, lilac, cream
Lifespan: 12–15 years
Price: $1,200–$2,500
Ragdoll cats are absolutely adorable medium-length furred cats. Not only do they look like little stuffed animals, they act like them too. These cats are notorious for their relaxed, gentle personalities. They also have silky, soft fur that’s so much fun to pet. Almost all Ragdoll kitties are quite large, reaching a weight of up to 20 pounds! In addition to their stunning size, they also have sparkling blue eyes that captivate cat lovers. These affectionate sweethearts are sure to be some of the most loving felines you’ll ever keep.

3. Ragamuffin Cat

Colors: Blue, brown tabby with white, tortoiseshell, mink
Lifespan: 12–16 years
Price: $600–$1,300
The Ragamuffin cat is a variant of the Ragdoll—but with a special twist. They may have medium-length fur, but it is incredibly dense and often compared to rabbit fur. Because of that, these kitties do well even in extremely cold temperatures. Ragamuffins tend to be very friendly cats—especially males. They are easy-going, taking to nearly anyone. So, if you’re looking for a cat that can acclimate well to new situations, this is a very good breed to consider.

4. Siberian Cat

Colors: Smoke, white, blue, red tabby, silver tabby, brown tabby, red point, silver shaded, lynx point
Lifespan: 8–10 years
Price: $1,200–$4,000
Siberian cats are rare and beautiful—touting gorgeously fluffy coats that once got them through intense Russian winters. Many owners would describe this breed as being friendly, affectionate, and brave—not afraid of much, but they usually mind their own business. One really awesome thing about the Siberian cat is that they are nearly hypoallergenic even though they have super thick coats. They don’t seem to emit as much of an allergy response as most other cats. So, if you have a mild cat allergy, this breed might not bother you at all.

5. Somali Cats

Colors: Red, ruddy, fawn, blue
Lifespan: 11–16 years
Price: $1,000–$1,500
The Somali cat has an exciting set of traits that make them stand out. First, their coats are pretty nifty—shorter on top and longer on the undercarriage. Technically, they are described as long-haired cats, but they have a nice combination of length in their coats, which gives them more of a medium length on average. Somalis are known to be a little mischievous and adventurous, getting into anything and everything they please. Because they have high-maintenance personalities, they might not work for every cat owner. They are definitely a breed that will keep you on your toes.

Speaking of which…

The Chartreux cat is a rare French breed with a highly distinguishable blue-silver coat. These cats have shorter hair but are puffy and thick. These beauties have muscular frames and are a bit heavy, which might be surprising because of their small size. The Chartreux is a very intelligent breed—and they love a good challenge. Even though they are warm and charming, they love playing mentally stimulating games. So, prepare to keep their minds occupied with fun activities.

Pixie Bobs are very sweet and friendly—and they love to eat! So, if you have snacks, make sure you’re willing to share. These kitties will be the first to let you know that the food bowl is low.
